Deionised water80 mLto final volume

Method

  1. Wearing a mask to avoid inhaling the fine powder, add the SDS to about 80 mL of deionised water (per 100 mL final).
  2. Stir gently and warm to about 60 °C if needed to dissolve; avoid vigorous frothing.
  3. Once dissolved and cooled, make up to the final volume with deionised water.
  4. Store at room temperature; do not refrigerate, as SDS precipitates in the cold.

Notes & safety

SDS precipitates below about 15 °C. If the stock clouds in a cool room, warm and stir to redissolve. Always weigh SDS in a way that contains the dust.

Consult the Safety Data Sheet for each reagent and follow your institution's protocols. Wear appropriate PPE.
